This article is for all those people who live in India and found it difficult to verify their paypal account with Credit/Debit card.Being a verified paypal user has its own advantages, for one,you can withdraw huge amount of money from your account at once. Moreover it provides a better way of security.Thankfully Paypal introduced some support in regards to withdrawing money from Indian Banks, earlier this year. However it does seem that our options are limited.
As of now major banks like SBI, HDFC, ICICI, UTI, Standard Chartered, HSBC, Citibank and few minor banks allow this possibility. There are no charges for withdrawal of amount greater than Rs.7,000. For amount less than 7000, a fee of Rs.50 is charged! Read more about this here
Now for this reason,I recently created an account with HDFC bank.Initially I was of the opinion that you could link any credit or debit card with Paypal to get verified. However, though I am not sure at this moment,I guess linking Debit card is not an option for India.Having left with no option here,i began searching for a viable solution.Fortunately,I found about “Virtual Credit Cards”…in terms of HDFC Banking, its called “NetBanking NetSafe VCC”. I am sure that all major banking systems provide facilities to generate a VCC,but since I have manually tested the HDFC NetSafe,I will describe this tutorial from its perspective. So if you are HDFC account holder then you can take advantage of NetSafe a unique service provided by HDFC.
Brief OVERVIEW of HDFC NetSafe
NetSafe, is a unique online payment solution that offers you complete security while shopping on the Internet. With NetSafe, you can now shop online through a virtual credit card, without revealing your actual HDFC Bank Credit Card number. What’s more, you can now use your HDFC Bank Debit Card also for online purchases.
With this secured credit card or debit card application, you create a virtual card (NetSafe Card) from your HDFC Bank MasterCard or Visa Credit / Debit Card Number. You can then use this virtual card number at any online merchant site and complete your shopping with security and ease. And, the limit of the card is the amount as chosen by you.
How to Verify your Paypal with NetSafe
Step 1
(First of all you will need an account with HDFC Bank and should have a HDFC Debit Card with you. Moreover you should make sure that you have at least above Rs 200 in the Bank.Assuming you pass these requirements,we can now continue……)
Go to HDFC Bank’s website. On the right hand side you will find an option to register for NetSafe/Verified by Visa/MasterCard etc…(see image below). Click the register option and fill in the form details carefully. You will need your debit/credit card number and PIN number for this
Step 2
Once you finish registering, then proceed to logging in to your NetSafe account.Once you login successfully, you will presented with a screen to create a new NetSafe Card. Now,thats your Virtual Credit Card (VCC). Depending(randomly,I guess) the virtual card will be either Master Card or Visa verified.I got the MasterCard, but it really doesnt matter. Fill in the amount you want to attach to the NetSafe card.Since Paypal charges around $1.95 to your Credit card for verification,I suggest you keep anything above Rs100,preferably around Rs200. Just Click on ‘GO’ once done
Now at this point a new window will pop up with a randomly generated VCC Card number and other details.
Please note down the details of Virtual Credit Card Number, CVV2 & Card Expiry Date carefully somewhere
Step 3
Now login to your Paypal account and click on the ‘Get Verified’ link.
Fill in all the details you noted in the above step here carefully and when finished just click the ‘Submit button’.You will now be presented with the page below
This means that you have successfully linked your paypal with your debit card. Now all thats left is to confirm it,which brings around the tricky part…
Step 4
Paypal states that you need a unique 4-digit code to confirm your Debit/Credit card. This code appears in the Transaction details of your bank statement.
Normally Paypal states that it could take around 24hrs to link your card, since you would have to manually go to the bank and get the updated bank statement regarding this transaction. However since we have generated a VCC,a bank statement is literally out of question. So where will you now find the 4-digit code?? Well, the answer is obvious, ONLINE itself.
Login into your NetSafe account again. If you have observed carefully before, you will notice that there was a link “All Accounts/Services”. Click on it
Yu will be
presented with a form wherein you can check all the virtual cards created till date and their transaction details. At present we are only interested to see the “Transaction Details” .So click on it
You will now find a statement as shown below.Note down the 4-digit code carefully.
(In case of Visa Cards, the format might be slightly different, but in any case the 4-digit code will always be obvious and eminent. Moreover,I noticed that you will even receive a mail from HDFC stating how to find this number,so dont worry)
Step 5
Now login to your paypal account and on the right hand side you will find an option to “Link/Confirm your Credit/Debit Card”.Go there and now fill in the 4-digit code you found in the above step
Thats it,you are done. You will now be shown as verified.Enjoy your Paypal Verified status now
