How to perform practical’s on a FREE UNIX server using Cygwin

unix_plateI joined Cognizant as a fresher somewhere around 7 months before Smile and after being in the IT company for this long, one latest trend or craze I have seen is for UNIX. UNIX language is basically a shell language and programming in UNIX involves shell scripting. Both are difficult to understand and it takes time to get a grip on it since in UNIX you don’t get the luxury of a GUI unlike Windows, which most of us are accustomed too.

That really makes UNIX developers very rare in market and also they are  the highly paid ones Smile. Mastering UNIX is a slow and steady process. Its more of getting accustomed to it than understanding it. For this you need a lot of practice. Not many of us have the option of installing a full fledged flavour of UNIX on our machine and that makes it difficult to practice it.

How to set your Windows 7 PC/laptop to ‘Hibernate’ mode

hibernate After  working currently in IT industry, where computers are used the most, I have realized that most of them refrain from switching off their PC’s because even though they are done for the day, they arent done with their inportant work. Most times it happens that when you are onto something conclusive, times up and you have to leave . But then, you dont want to end something that you done after scratching and breaking your heads for hours and trust me, not everything can be saved as easy as text files. In that case, what most do is simply lock down their PC’s by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del.
